“I used to have dreams and goals for myself! Nowadays my life seems to revolve around dancing to the tunes of others. I have precious little time for myself and find it very difficult to say 'no!' to colleagues, family or friends. I dance to many tunes all at once: motherhood, lover, employee, friend, daughter, sister, boss, counsellor, cook, cleaner, wife and more! The sad thing is that I have danced to the tunes of others for such a long time that I have almost forgotten my own music; my dreams, skills and desires feel like they are drowned out forever. I feel tired, worn out and I hardly even know what my music is anymore...” Dancing this dance and trying to balance work and life, can lead to exhaustion, stress, illness and often burnout. A recent report commissioned by The Conservative Party, highlights the current status of women in the UK. You can download a copy of the report by clicking here. You may also wish to try our Worklife Quiz for Women, by clicking here or visiting our resources section. About Dancing Round the Handbags®Dancing Round the Handbags® is a book and a series of workshops aimed at women and intended to support them to stop juggling and start balancing work and life. 86% of caring responsibilities in a family are carried out by women and of the 70% of women who work outside the home, 66% are mothers of children under 16; around half work part time. Women frequently report that they have little time for self - but if up to 50 hours are spent caring and 38 hours working, the fact is that there is no time for self. Is it any wonder that 80% of all sickness absence is stress related - 46% due to worklife imbalance? Age discrimination exponentially affects people over 54 and women are impacted most. One third of all 1960’s baby boomers do not contribute to a pension and 1 in 4 will live in poverty. What are we doing to ourselves? Our wellbeing is reducing, our stress increasing and the demands on our time are rising. Burn out, heart disease, cancer and other diseases are on the increase. It is time to stop the dance - it is time to stop the music for a while, leave the dance floor, and take a look at how to create balance. Dancing Round the Handbags is dedicated to women's personal development and if willing to really be engaged in its metaphors and lessons, we guarantee it will support ways for women to dance their best life. Using the metaphor and symbols of the dance and the handbag, the book, coaching and the workshops enable women to create the correct balance in their life. It is written and delivered by Lynne Copp, Managing Director of the Worklife Company. Lynne has spent many years coaching and developing individuals and organisations to balance work and life. Her experience and passion for what she does creates motivation and change in others and she is passionate about supporting women to dance their best life!
